Yet until recently, the more than 70 independent farmers in the area were severely impoverished and remained vulnerable to the vagaries of the market. Hence the community of Wupperthal remains one of the most impoverished in the Western Cape.

Through real Benefit Sharing with the 8th generation small-scale producer members of the Fair Wupperthal Rooibos Cooperative, and recognizing the community of 1,700 souls as the original Traditional Knowledge Holders of rooibos, Bestinvestin seeks to bring socio-economic progress for these direct descendants of the Khoi and San Peoples through sales of WR1830.
